    Hi Susan

Enjoyed your session at SETT. I’m interested in using blogging with my kids.
I’m not very clear though, about setting it up. Does each child have a password and name? Or each class? This of course, would be different from the teacher’s one.
Maybe you could email me and answer a few of my simple, but off-putting, questions.

    Thanks

We set up a French blog with the one username and password which all classes involved would use. It’s better if the person managing the site. usually the class teacher or the classroom assistant, types this in so the pupils can’t all go adding hundreds of blogs at home and we can keep an eye on the content!
Once you have set up one blog on Blogger you use the same username and password and then select which blog you want to edit e.g. we now have english, french, parents, ecoschools, etc. This makes it easier to remember!
In edublogs you get a username and password for each individual blog you have, i think!
Pupils setting up their own individual blogs would get their own usernames and passwords but I wouldn’t recommend this as you can’t then moderate the comments and safety becomes a concern. They will possibly do this at home but as we talked about at SETT providing pupils with internet awareness and talking about safe use is a big part of our learning.
    Hope this helps.

    Hello Susan,

I am hoping to establish blogging with a group of pupils and I am verging towards using Blogger as a host site.
Can you confirm, would you set yourself up as an admin user and then create a guest user ID which would be used by all the pupils? I thought this may be beneficial so that the children could not access comments waiting to be accepted/declined.
Also, is there any way that the posts written by the children can be read before they are submitted to the site?

    Many thanks,

    Fiona Christie

We have actually given pupils the username and password and to date haven’t had any issues with this however creating a guest user account for pupils to log into when doing their comments and feedback is a good idea.
In order to put on posts you would have to be an administrator. I just ask the children to let me view their entry and agree it before they click ‘Publish’. Posts can be deleted if they are inappropriate but I have only found a way to review ‘comments’, not posts, I’m afraid.
